When buying blinds or shades, first you will need to determine whether you want an inside mount, or outside mount. While both options block light and reduce energy costs, here is what you need to know so you can choose which mount is right for you.

Inside Mount refers to a blind that is mounted on the inside of your window frame. This type of mount is by far the most common choice, and is highly recommended. An Outside Mount is when the blind is mounted up above the window, on the wall, or window trim. This is typically done in 2 situations. If there are obstructions inside your window frame such as an alarm sensor, or if your frame lacks sufficient mounting depth for an inside mount. You may also consider an Outside Mount if your windows are an uneven shape or size or if you prefer that the window trim not show at all. Our website provides details on how much depth is required to install an inside mount. In most cases, the depth that you'll need is only a couple of inches.

When you choose an Inside Mount, you'll be giving us the exact measurements of your window, and the factory will make your blind slightly more narrow so that it moves properly up and down within your window. For an Outside Mount, you give us the the measurement of the blind, not the window. The factory will make it to your exact specifications.
